| | | | Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, along with others, recently unveiled a sweeping federal election reform bill, the Count Every Vote Act of 2005.
The Count Every Vote Act addresses an impressive number of the problems that Election Protection volunteers documented in 2004, and there's good reason for that. People For the American Way and the Election Protection coalition advised the bill's authors after spending weeks and months poring over the incident reports and voter testimonials which EP volunteers helped gather.
This bill is what we've been working toward since November 2, and it needs your support now. More | | |

Hi Teresa,
I wanted to post a link from vv'.org that presents brief summaries on various bills at the federal level, and a table of state level legislation too.
verifiedvoting.org's legislative action overview
They highly recommend H.R. 550 by Rush Holt in the house, and have good things to say about the "Count Every Vote Act of 2005" that you mentioned here, but they strongly endorse S.330 by Ensign in the senate.
What I don't understand is why there are so many different versions out there even from among democrats. Why can't they all get together in one room and craft a single piece of legislation along with a legislative plan of action, and then have us engage in activism in a unified way?
But short of that, we could may be make enough noise and get as many democrats (and some republicans) to sign-on to ALL of the good measures out there.
The bad wolf among the bills on that page is H.R. 3910 by Tom Feeney, which the GOP seems to have injected in order choke-hold election reform with voter ID requirement. Please see this must see diary by Jennifer Clare on this bill vs HR 550.
Please check out the bill pages at vv'.org, in particular for the there bills mentioned here to see who is sponsosoring what.
A recent bill by Obama (S.1975) addressing some specific voting reform issues (i think it addresses voter id aspect) seems not have been added to the list by vv.
eeeeexcellent!
thank you both!
Hi GWH:
may I suggest you to invite MSOC to this blog? Her public email is myleftwing@gmail.com
You may want to invite "Adam B" from daily and "Jennifer Clare" (her email is not public anymore, you may want to post a comment in response to one of hers) and "Warren Stewart" from dKos too.
thanks
NL
ps: i'll try to spruce up my Citizen Legislators blog one of these days and invite folks over there. We could possibly use that blog to hold at length discussions on legislation, and use this blog to discuss action items, and post dKos etal diaries for executing those action plans.
And we can crosspost stuff all over the place. The more appearances (and links) the merrier.
